Representatives of 155 member clubs, among which was our Director Annabel Llevot, attended the 18th General Assembly of the European Club Association in Athens, Greece.
The General Assembly focused on the reform of the club competition already approved for the 2018-21 cycle and the beginning of the process of consultation and coordination regarding the 2021-24 cycle.
More specifically, the General Secretary of UEFA, Giorgio Marchetti, took the opportunity to present a precise analysis based on the facts of the sport and the commercial value of the new concept of the 2018-21 competition.
He also highlighted the fact that the two competitions, the Champions League and Europa League clubs remain open to all associations, which is a key component of unity in European football clubs.
The new concept aims to address the need for greater value to maintain interest in sports competition by fans and media alike. Giorgio Marchetti emphasized that the Champions League should retain its position as the best club competition in the world. Meanwhile, the community of European football clubs need unity, stability and solidarity.
